The American Water Works Association (AWWA) recently awarded the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi with the 2019 State of Mississippi Water Treatment Plant of the Year. The award was presented during a conference of the Alabama/Mississippi Section of the AWWA in Mobile, Alabama. This coveted award is presented annually by the AWWA to a facility in the state that has excelled in overall water quality, plant improvements, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance.

“Vicksburg residents are benefiting from our administration’s decision to contract out our water treatment operations,” commented Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. “This recognition speaks volumes for the service that ESG provides and reiterates that our City is headed in the right direction.”

ESG’s partnership with the City of Vicksburg began in September 2015 when the City engaged ESG under an emergency services task order to assist in operating and maintaining its water treatment facility. ESG immediately implemented an aggressive plan of action restoring compliance, strengthening plant operations, enhancing water quality, and addressing numerous safety, regulatory and maintenance issues. In July 2016, ESG and the City consummated a long-term contract for the operation, management and maintenance for the City of Vicksburg’s water treatment plant. Two years later, in 2018, the City and ESG expanded its partnership to include Vicksburg’s wastewater treatment facility.

Vicksburg’s North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield, who accepted the award on behalf of the City, recently commented, “After talking with representatives from other cities about water and wastewater treatment problems, I didn’t realize how blessed we are. ESG is doing a great job for the City of Vicksburg.”

“ESG is honored to partner with the great City of Vicksburg, Mississippi. We congratulate Project Manager Eddie Busby and the entire Team Vicksburg staff for this outstanding achievement. Their dedication, commitment to excellence, and determination to provide exemplary service enabled the Water Plant to earn this prestigious industry award,” commented J. Clay Sykes, P.E., ESG principal and cofounder.
